Living with life's ups and downs
I had planned that this blog would be solely about music and gigs in particular. However recent events in my life have made ponder a few things:
When your life is turned upside down what should you listen too?
By this I mean should you wallow in dark, melancholy dirges, or angry, loud, energetic tunes, or attempt to lift your mood with happy, clappy, light and lovely songs?
On consideration I couldn't face slumping in a dark room listening to music made to make you cry. And I didn't particularly feel angry either (or not yet at any rate). So I went against anguish and hurt and reached out to the bright side of things, even though I feared that these songs would then be tainted forever, I hope not.
The soundtrack to my confusion?
I'm from Barcelona - Let me introduce my friends
Blonde Redhead - 23
Postal Service - Give Up (but I haven't)
At the risk of sounding like a self help book - we can handle whatever surprises life throws at us as long as we have a great soundtrack to back us up.

Howling Bells
The sexiest music, dark and brooding, the Howling Bells hail from Sydney, Austrailia but are based in the UK. During the gigs I was reminded of P.J. Harvey, Nick Cave's murder ballads, and the poetry of Browning and other gothic writers. But Howling Bells rise above all comparisons, at least any I could make. Juanita's rich, textured voice sings tales of broken hearts, dark nights and low low low happenings. The bands chemistry on stage is like static electricity and each night the crowds rippled with magnetism towards the stage. Apart from excellent songs, heady melodies with driving distorted guitars the band are four of the nicest people that a support band is likely to have to pleasure to meet on any gig circuit. And their dancing ain't half bad either!

New to blogging. Good music makes life sparkle. Nice people = even better. Favorite places to eat, drink and be merry along the way. Most will be noted. Some forgotten!
